| APOA-DEPUY Spine Travelling Fellowships |

Guidelines / Criteria for Applicants:

APOA members AND members of the Spine Section of the APOA
-
Age 45 years or less
-
Can communicate effectively in English and have a legal status to go abroad
-
Have a university level degree or country equivalent and have specialty for spine

The application must be submitted on the official application form including the applicant's curriculum vitae and recommendation letter from two referees.

Each application must be accomplished by an application fee of USD150 which is non-refundable. Applications which are not accompanied by the application fee will not be processed.

The application fee can be paid on this website or in the form of a bank draft issued in favour of "Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association"

The closing date for receipt of application form and fee is 7 April 2008

Economy air-travel and hotel accommodation arrangements will be made by the APOA secretariat. Successful applicants will be given assistance towards securing their air-tickets but full reimbursement of travel expenses will only be made upon completion of their fellowship. The fellow is responsible for obtaining and payment of visas and visa fees respectively.
Information on the APOA-DePUY Spine Traveling Fellowship

The countries to be visited are provisionally Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Japan, Taiwan and India. The fellows will form two groups of 4 each; each group will travel to three or four countries. The composition and order of countries to be visited will be informed to successful applicants.

The duration of the Fellowship will be three weeks, commencing on Sunday 18 May 2008 and ending on Saturday 7 June 2008. All selected fellows must complete the entire duration of the fellowship and they must stay together in their assigned group for the duration of the fellowship.

Both groups will end the Fellowship attending the 7th Triennial Combined Meeting of the Spine and Paediatric Orthopaedic Sections of the APOA in Jeju, Korea from 4 to 7 June 2008.

Tentative program :
- Date arrival in Seoul :18 May 2008
- Sequence of travel: Seoul, Fukuoka, Jeju island
- APOA Paeds and Spine Congress: 4th to 7th June 2008
- Date return from Jeju island: 8th June 2008
Priority of selection :
- Age less than 40 years old
- Working in hospital that perform Paeds Ortho procedures
- Willing to prepare a short scientific presentation on any research project for the meeting in Jeju (not confirmed yet)
- A recommendation letter by a paeds ortho consultant who is a member of APOA

| APOA-Pfizer Best Scientific Paper Award for Orthopaedic Infection |
| An Award of US$10,000 is available for the Best Musculoskeletal Infection Papers. |
| |
| Guidelines |
- This is open to all surgeons and scientists with an interest in musculoskeletal infection.
- Applicants must submit in a format of a paper ready for publication.
- The paper can be either clinical or basic science that is relevant to the infection of the musculoskeletal system.
- Papers must be received by the closing date to be considered for the award.
- It is a requirement that at least one of the authors present the work as a presentation at an APOA meeting to be decided by the Committee at his/her own expense.
- The winners of the prize will be announced at an APOA meeting.
- Judges will be blinded and selected from International Experts in the field.
- The number of prizes per year will be one to a maximum of three and if the quality of the papers is not good enough in any year, no prize will be awarded.

Asian Travelling Fellowship Awards |

JPOA founded Asian traveling fellowship in 1999. The fellowship offers 2 or 3 young orthopaedic surgeons every year from the Asian region, a chance to attend an annual JPOA meeting from December 11 to 12, 2008 and to visit some orthopaedic centers (about a week) before or after the meeting. As partial support for the fellows' travel expenses and accommodations, 200,000 yen is provided. (or JPOA will support the airfare between each country and Japan, and the local accommodation). The date and place of the visits will be decided based on a discussion between recipients and the fellows. |

| 2008 Tohoku University Visiting Fellowships |

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Tohoku University School of Medicine in Sendai, Japan is inviting four orthopaedic surgeons to our visiting fellowship program.
Two fellows are invited to study spine surgeries according to the Shoichi Kokubun Spine Fellowship program.
Other two fellows are invited to study joint surgeries including shoulder, hip and knee surgeries.
During the two weeks program, the fellows are exposed to many kinds of surgeries at our department and affiliated hospitals. The date of the visit will be decided between 1/Sep/2008 and 31/Aug/2009 based on a discussion with us .
A part of cost for the fellows' transportation, meal and accommodations less than 200,000 JPY will be provided according to our policy.
