Dear Colleagues,
“Greetings from India!”
I thank all the council members of the Asia Pacific Orthopaedic Association for giving India the opportunity to host the Golden Jubilee Congress of the Association in 2012. The President of the Association is elected from the host chapter, and I am fortunate to be elected to this August post. A number of luminaries from the Asia Pacific region have occupied this chair, and I am aware of the great responsibility I have to shoulder. The APOA is soon going to be fifty years old and there are a number of challenges before us in the new Millennium.
With half of the world’s population and Orthopaedic Surgeons in the Asia Pacific region, there is a great potential for growth. This region boasts of a lot of cultural, linguistic and developmental diversity. This may be our strength and we should endeavour to work to create “Unity in Diversity”, a slogan so often used to characterize India as a nation.
As the most widespread region of the world it should be our collective effort to endeavour to find our rightful place in Global Orthopaedics. Our influence can be immense, if we can only draw from our strengths. The sheer size of our population, the wide variety of orthopaedic problems that we encounter and the resultant experience we can share amongst us, gives us an unique opportunity to lead the world.
It is said: strength is in numbers. Unfortunately, our membership has not grown as it should . Through this message I appeal and invite all Orthopaedic Surgeons in the Asia Pacific region to become members of the APOA. You will find the interaction with your colleagues from other parts of this region professionally and socially enriching.
Together we can make a difference for our patients.
With warm regards,
H.K.T. RAZA PRESIDENT ASIA PACIFIC ORTHOPAEDIC ASSOCIATION
